The Story

Hi! My name is Joni Durrance and I am a Fernandina Beach native who has been in the beauty industry for 24 years. I'd love to share our story!

I had an unexpected opportunity to buy an existing, charming salon on the south end of Amelia Island a while back. I never knew how much I would enjoy the remodel process until I did it. My husband and I discovered how much we loved building and design when we built our home three years ago. He and my step-daughter have been and integral part of helping me make this dream come alive. It has truly been a bonding family affair.

When considering a name change and rebrand, I wanted to convey our values and also reflect my love for the island. The part about salt and light in Matthew chapter 5 kept ruminating in my head for weeks. I had other names picked out, but kept returning to that scripture.

The salt element reminds me of how we are to enhance peoples lives as workers in the beauty industry, and being a light is something we are to many. We never wanted to be a place that you "just come and get your hair done", but a place that truly touches people. A stylist or nail technician has the ability to transform your life. Our staff considers it such a privilege to offer a peaceful refuge in our fully interactive salon. You will walk in and be greeted by warm smiles as we get to know you. This intimate culture was already there when we bought it, but we are taking it to the next level!

We want to thank you so much for considering Salt + Light Hair Company! We look forward to seeing you year after year. Our friendly and professional staff are waiting to accommodate you!

The Inspiration

Matthew 5:13-16

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot."

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
